Do you have a passion for helping your community, reducing infant mortality, eliminating racial disparities, and upstream advocacy? Join the Getting to 1 Coalition today! Fill out form https://forms.gle/LVE7ajoLJZwhHweT7

General Meetings are every three months. Subcommittees meet every other month. Join email list for more info and meeting invites.

Getting to 1 Coalition, is comprised of a General Group (which is open to everyone and meets Quarterly to share updates, current data, guest speakers on subjects surrounding infant mortality, and resources), and two subcommittees. The subcommittees formed as a result of the Coalition relaunching in July of 2021. Subcommittee topics were selected by members and utilized data from local/regional sources, group interest, and local need. Focus is on upstream (higher level) policy or practice change to influence factors which contribute to infant mortality. The fact that infant mortality is such a complex issue with so many factors, which may directly or indirectly have effects, it is important to research and take action in as many areas as we can.

The Environmental Pollutants Subcommittee of Getting to 1 is a space for community partners and community members to learn more about the correlation and potential upstream causes of environmental pollutants on reproductive health and infant mortality. Environmental Pollutants such as those in everyday environments (air, water, soil) and everyday products (beauty, household, cleaning, etc.), have been associated with adverse birth outcomes. This committee hosts subject matter experts to speak about various pollutants and their research on the effects on reproductive health and infant mortality, with the committee’s long term goal to develop policy addressing this. Meetings are held virtually, bi-monthly on the third Wednesday of that month from 10-11:30am.

The Racism in Health Care subcommittee of Getting to 1 is a space where community partners and community members come together to discuss ways to address racism in local health care systems. Racism in health care is a contributor to poor birth outcomes and is a systemic issue. This meeting is held virtually, bi-monthly on the first Tuesday of that month from 10-11am. The Racism in Health Care Subcommittee is continuing to work towards increasing patient advocacy in health care settings and increasing access to doula and midwife services and promote education on the services they provide. This committee will collaborate to promote policy change and center the voices of community members to share their experiences.
